Groups Join Together to Push Past Coal During Obama’s 1st 100 Days
Dec 4th, 2008 by admin
Dozens of our allies across the country are joining together to send a strong message about the dangers of coal and the need for renewable energy and economic alternatives…
Dear Friends,
A sneak peek of a series of events you’ll be hearing more about soon. The website will launch in the next month…
We’re inviting you to join us as part of a landmark effort joining together grassroots and national groups, working on issues from coal extraction, to coal combustion waste to global warming. We represent thousands of citizens from across the US working to send a message to our next president: That we must transition away from coal and begin building a clean energy future.
On the morning after Barack Obama accepts his presidency, coalfield organizers will unite with citizens from every corner of the country to take 100 Days of Action to Push Past Coal Each day, from January 21st to April 30th, one or a dozen or more communities will make a call for the end to dirty coal – from destructive coal mining to dangerous coal waste disposal. Citizens across the US will gather with friends to work for clean energy, demand that their politicians declare coal is dirty, rally to keep false solutions like “cl–n coal” out of our climate change legislation, or march in solidarity with communities impacted by coal mining, coal burning and coal waste disposal.
Actions will be creative and speak to the new power we are building — the power of the grassroots joining together to fight global warming, and the new power that will fuel our country safely and cleanly. It’s the opportunity to tell the stories of people in our communities whose lives are wrongly affected by coal, or to highlight the need for a sustainable and just future. Some actions will mobilize thousands of people across the nation, others actions will involve just a few from a community. No matter the size or scope, what matters is our united voice. Each action will carry our common message, every day to the new president.
Which day will your community take action?
These 100 days are being planned by dozens of groups across the country — If you are interested in being a part of the planning, funding or have an action/event please let us know here: http://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?key=pE0N-Pj2ld9hJFSEe5um5ew Questions? Contact Carrie [at] theclean.org
